HOUSTON -- Trillium CNG is expanding beyond the compressed natural gas (CNG) business with two more alternative fuels: hydrogen and electric.
Trillium is a member of the Love’s family of companies, which includes the Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores chain. It has built more than 180 CNG fueling locations in the United States and delivers more than 70 million gallons of CNG each year. Trillium and Love’s Travel Stops combined own 65 public CNG fueling facilities.
Trillium is now offering hydrogen fueling station design, building and maintenance services, with its first project underway at the Orange County Transportation Authority's (OCTA's) Santa Ana, Calif., facility.
The new station will have two fueling lanes, capable of fueling two hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered transit buses with about 35 kilograms of hydrogen each in six to 10 minutes. OCTA's fleet will include 10 hydrogen-fuel-cell electric buses, although the fueling station will be able to service a fleet of as many as 50 buses. Trillum is adding the hydrogen fueling infrastructure to two existing CNG fueling lanes, which it designed and built in 2007.
Meanwhile, Trillium is also adding electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, solar-panel installation, and microgrid design and construction services. It plans to install EV charging stations at some Love's Travel Stops locations later in 2018. Love’s currently has eight sites with EV charging: four with Tesla Supercharger EV charging stations and four installed by SemaConnect.

"Each alternative fueling source has its own set of benefits, and we want to meet the needs of our customers in as many ways as possible."
