Atlas Earns Human Resources Honor

Named among "best to work for"

TAYLOR, Mich. -- Atlas Oil Co., a provider of round-the-clock petroleum products and services, has yet another reason to celebrate this year. The company, which is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, was named to "Metropolitan Detroit's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" list released by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MPBA).

The 101 Best and Brightest awards were established to honor companies that recognize employees as their greatest asset. Companies on the list are leaders in creating organizational value and business results through [image-nocss] their best practices and policies in human resource management. The awards are a testament to the fact that these companies are ideal places for employees to work.

"Atlas is thrilled to be honored with the 101 Best and Brightest Companies award," said Sam Simon, CEO and owner. "At Atlas, we have built our whole culture around recruiting and retaining the best team members and then creating a supportive environment that helps them continually grow and develop. This is how we attract new talent and continue to grow our business."

The award process consists of a nomination, anonymous employee surveys by an independent research firm and an extensive survey of the company's Human Resources Department.

"The process is a rigorous one based on input from our team members combined with an evaluation of our human resource related practices, so we are really excited to have earned this distinction for the first time," said Kari Lawry, vice president of human resources for Atlas Oil. "The first thing we did when we found out was to celebrate with all of our team members nationally with balloons, cake and ice cream for everyone."

Atlas was formed in 1985 and today has more than 400 employees, a fleet of 100 trucks, and does business in 22 states. The company's commercial transportation business supplies Fortune 500 companies with innovative fuel solutions. Atlas also has a mobile fueling tank wagon business and supplies nearly 400 retail gas stations representing six gasoline brands.

Atlas will accept its award at the MPBA Symposium and luncheon on Sept. 22 at the Marriott Dearborn Inn.

Based in Taylor, Mich., Atlas Oil supplies fuel to nearly 400 gasoline convenience stores throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The company also maintains operational centers in Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Ohio and satellite offices in Minneapolis, Scottsdale, AZ, Hammond, IN and Albuquerque, NM.
