ARLINGTON, Va. – It’s official: The newest SweeTarts Gummy shape will be ... a cellphone.
The sweet and sour candy brand declared the hand-held device the winner of its “Search for the Next Gummy Shape” contest, which urged fans to submit shape ideas for the chance to win a year’s supply of SweeTarts Gummies.
SweeTarts collected more than 3,000 entries during the contest—which was launched in June during its Sour Gummies debut—and chose the submission from Crystal May, a consumer based in Philadelphia.
“[The cellphone] is an integral part of our everyday lives and is a must-have item, just like the new SweeTarts Gummies,” May said.
The new cellphone gummy shape will go into production later this year. All shape entries were judged on the level of creativity and originality, quality of the submission and relevance to the overall contest theme of sharing passions.
“We were amazed by the amount of submissions, as well as the range of original ideas, that our fans brought to the table, such as the tub of popcorn and hockey stick,” said Benjamin Jones, marketing associate for SweeTarts. “At SweeTarts, we believe in celebrating those who follow their many passions and live creatively, and it’s exciting to know that so many of our fans are doing just that. We look forward to bringing our winning gummy shape to life.”
Current SweeTarts Gummies shapes include a turntable, virtual reality headset and rocket ship, all of which are available in both sweet and sour fruit flavors, including Cherry, Green Apple, Orange, Lemon and Blue Punch.
SweeTarts Gummies and Sour Gummies are available at retailers nationwide in 4-ounce share packs, 5.25-ounce medium packs and 10-ounce stand-up bags for a suggested retail price of $1.69 to $2.89.
SweeTarts is part of the Willy Wonka Candy Co., which is owned by Arlington, Va.-based Nestle USA. Besides SweeTarts Gummies, the brand’s portfolio includes Original SweeTarts, SweeTarts Soft & Chewy Ropes, SweeTarts Gummies and SweeTarts Chewy.
