Kum & Go's Krause, Spouse, Are 'Iowa Stars'

Newspaper honors couple for "outstanding contributions" to region
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go LC president and CEO Kyle Krause, along with his wife, Sharon, who owns Dalla Terra Ranch, were honored as this year's "Iowa Star" recipients during a reception at the Temple for Performing Arts. The awards, in their ninth year, honor individual and community organizations that make "outstanding contributions" to central Iowa, said The Des Moines Register, which created the award.

As board chairman of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines in 2010, Kyle Krause helped the organization exceed significant donation goals, [image-nocss] and assets increased to more than $165 million . He also helped jumpstart the $17 million "We Believe" capital campaign for Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines.

Sharon Krause served on the United Way of Central Iowa's Women's Leadership Initiative Advocacy Committee working to support early childhood learning opportunities. She also has been an advocate for the rights of women and their families.

In the past year, the report said, the couple pledged $250,000 to Mercy Medical Center's Million Little Reasons campaign, $25,000 to Iowa State University's College of Engineering Krause Scholarship and $60,000 to Sacred Heart's Light for Tomorrow campaign.

"Being with all of you is contagious," Sharon Krause told the crowd of 200 gathered in downtown Des Moines for the ceremony, according to the report. "It's really hard to say no to this community."

The Krauses received a Steuben "Star Stream" crystal sculpture, the newspaper added.
