Leadership Giving Strong

Sunoco raises $2 million for United Way of SE Pa.
PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc. said that its annual United Way campaign had raised $1.786 million for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania (UWSEPA). The pledges were made by employees, retirees and the company, according to Charles K. Valutas, senior vice president of Sunoco.

The total donation represents an increase of 5.3% over the amount raised in 2006.

"Leadership giving was also very strong in 2007," said Jose Cabrera, vice president and co-chair for leadership giving. "Our total of more than $628,000 represented an increase of 7.8% over the previous year." Leadership [image-nocss] giving is defined as donations of $1,000 or more.

"The company will increase its commitment to the Neighborhood Assistance Program, which will bring the grand total of Sunoco's donation to more than $2 million," added Valutas.

"UWSEPA, under the leadership of president and CEO Alba Martinez, has identified targeted areas of need in the surrounding community where Sunoco's contributions will back programs aimed at achieving measurable results," Valutas said. "All Sunoco employees should feel very good about the significant and long-lasting impact their generous donations will have on the community."

Sunoco, based in Philadelphia, is one of the largest independent refiner-marketers in the United States.
