Pumping Up the Promotional Pump

Gas Station TV introduces integrated couponing

DETROIT -- Gas Station TV (GSTV)showing its wares at the NACS Show this weekhas introduced integrated couponing, a service that combines customizable on-screen and promotional messages with on-demand coupons that customers can print at the gasoline pump and redeem in the station's store.

Powered by Gilbarco Veeder-Root's SMART Merchandising technology, GSTV advertisers with Encore 500 dispensers can now link their programming to special coupon offers that can be tailored to a specific location, time of day and immediate customer need. The coupons are [image-nocss] printed directly at the pump, complete with a barcode that can be recognized by any store, quick-serve restaurant (QSR) or carwash scanner.

[The] combination of GSTV with the SMART Merchandising system is highly engaging and entices people to purchase, said David Leider, CEO of GSTV. Retailers actively using Gilbarco's SMART Merchandising system have reported increases of up to 10% in retail store sales and improved customer loyalty, he said.

Gilbarco's customers have seen tremendous results using their Encore fuel dispensers as merchandising devices, said Richard Browne, vice president of marketing for Gilbarco Veeder-Root. Valuable offers at the gas island drive fueling customers inside the retail store, and trackable coupons validate the effectiveness of the advertising.

GSTV delivers relevant and entertaining video content. Programming includes local and national news, sports, weather and traffic information on 20-in. high-definition, daylight viewable LCD monitors embedded into the dispensers. Programmable on a station-by-station basis, a portion of the programming on GSTV is dedicated to delivering messages that directly promote each retailer's convenience store offerings. It allows up to four customized, promotional messages to air during each customer's visit.

GSTV is currently delivering it services to refueling motorists in the Atlanta, Dallas and Houston markets and will roll out to more than 7,000 screens across the top 15 markets in the U.S. by the end of 2007, it said.

Detroit-based GSTV is an IP-based digital TV network offering ABC programming; local news, sports, weather and traffic; original content and advertising. GSTV also carries Amber Alerts and select PSAs as part of its programming. GSTV has secured partnerships with ABC; Murphy Oil USA Inc., with approximately 1,000 stations at Wal-Mart stores; retail fueling equipment and technology provider Gilbarco; and outdoor digital video display systems company Delphi Display Systems.
