Rutter's Announces 'Win Green Design Contest'

Also donates $100,000 for pool

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's Farm Stores has launched its "Win Green Design Contest," which is challenging entrants to come up with the design for a unique new recycling bin for bottles and cans that will be placed in front of the company's convenience stores.

The winner of the contest, which runs now through January 20, will receive a $500 Rutter's gift card.

The contest is part of a list of steps Rutter's is taking to make its stores more environmentally friendly. These steps include the use of more-efficient light bulbs, the recycling [image-nocss] of frying oils for use in biofuels, and the installing of white roofs on new stores.

For the design contest, York, Pa.-based Rutter's is setting general parameters, but giving entrants wide latitude to come up with the details of what the bin will look like. There is no limit to how many designs one person may submit.

Meanwhile, the Rutter's companies recently donated $100,000 for the new YMCA-Graham Aquatic Center in York. The project, which will open in 2008, will feature indoor and outdoor pools. The indoor pool will comprise a 500-seat spectator area, lockers and team area and a caf a; the outdoor pool will include 50-meter lap lanes and a "splash zone" and a "sprayground" for children.

"The YMCA-Graham Aquatic Center provides a wonderful opportunity to support an exciting new project that will promote health and fitness in our community for generations," said Scott Hartman, president of Rutter's Farm Stores. "We're proud to be involved with something so positive in York."

Family-owned and third-generation managed, the Rutter's companies comprise Rutter's Farm Stores (more than 50 stores, all in Pennsylvania), Rutter's Dairy and M&G Realty.
