Safeway Offers Guzzle n Go Gas Promo

Contest focuses attention on new private-label sodas

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway Inc. is running the Guzzle n Go promotion for its newly re-christened Go2 Cola and other private-label beverages. It is offering a contest to award free gas for lifeeight gallons of fuel a week for 30 years; cola for lifea dozen sodas a week for 20 years; and $20 and $50 gasoline cards.

Consumers are given a game card at checkout, and they enter key code online at www.guzzlengo.com to see if the key starts a virtual car.

The promotion, which began August 2, ends [image-nocss] August 29, 2006.

Other private-label brand sodas at Safeway, replacing the Safeway Select label, include Mountain Breeze and Parker's Root Beer.

Safeway Inc. is one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America. As of June 17, 2006, the company operated 1,770 stores in the Western, Southwestern, Rocky Mountain and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and in western Canada under the Safeway, Von's, Dominick's, Genuardi's, Randall's Tom Thumb and Carr's flags. It had annual sales of $38.4 billion in 2005.
