Simplifying PLUs

New Kwik Trip system saves time, provides better control

LACROSSE, Wis. -- Wisconsin's Kwik Trip Inc. has licensed The Pinnacle Corp.'s Symphony.pos manager system, an enterprise-level solution designed to simplify the POS configuration process.

"We selected Symphony.pos manager to make it easier to maintain price look up (PLU) boards and register setups at the stores from our support center," said Ron Sissel, manager of retail automation for Kwik Trip, LaCrosse, Wis. "We were the beta test site for the application, and the test went very well. There have been positive responses from our stores on the [image-nocss] change because we are now able to customize the register keyboards by location. Before Symphony.pos manager, all stores were required to have the same keyboards. We are now able to make changes to the PLU boards at the stores with relative ease."

The acceptance of the new process at the stores has been very positive. In the past, Kwik Trip required all stores to have the same PLU boards to make it easier for it to maintain the boards at its 368 stores. Now with Symphony.pos manager, Kwik Trip stores have the ability to customize their boards by removing keys they do not use and by adding other keys that are specific to the store.

Kwik Trip sees this as a major advancement in support of its retail operations because previously, it was difficult to make all the needed PLU board changes requested by retail operations in an ever-changing marketplace.

"We are very pleased with the results of our beta testing with Kwik Trip," said Melissa Fox, Pinnacle's retail solutions manager. "The ability to configure Palm POS systems from any Web browser, from one centralized database, has given Kwik Trip the opportunity to make some positive changes in processes and to make changes to registers from its help desk both easier and faster."

Symphony.pos manager, part of the Symphony solutions product line, allows retailers to quickly and easily create group-based configuration settings with a user-friendly and intelligent graphic interface. Symphony.pos manager automatically updates changes at the store without requiring any additional user intervention and provides immediate and continual feedback on the status of each configuration and stores' compliance with each change.
