Something Larger Than Ourselves

ExxonMobil contributes to United Way in Houston-Baytown

HOUSTON -- ExxonMobil said it will contribute $11 million in cash to the United Way in the Houston and Baytown areas following completion of its 2006 employee and retiree campaign.

The funds will assist those benefiting from services provided by the nonprofit and its affiliated agencies. Of that amount, $9.7 million will address needs of the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, and $1.3 million will benefit the United Way of Baytown.

The company contributed an additional $4.2 million through ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Program [image-nocss] grants earned by employee and retiree volunteers at various United Way affiliated agencies, gifts-in-kind donations, and corporate loaned executives and administrative personnel to assist with the heavy work load at already burdened social service agencies.

Our employees' and retirees' commitment to helping alleviate need continues to be an inspiration. Almost every week you can find someone volunteering somewhere in the community, said Thomas R. Walters, president, ExxonMobil Global Services Co. They realize the cumulative effect of giving back allows us to be a part of something larger than ourselves. Volunteerism is clearly a priority at ExxonMobil and we applaud our employees and retirees who pursue it with such enthusiasm.

To mark the contribution, representatives from ExxonMobil's Houston-based companies and the Baytown manufacturing complex joined together on December 5 to host a birthday party for senior citizens at the NCI Ripley House Community Center. The event was followed by a check presentation to United Way representatives.

ExxonMobil's unprecedented support of the United Way and our community is remarkable. It's demonstrated not just through the company's generous financial support, but through thousands of its employees' and retirees' time, money and talents that year round help shape the community's future, said United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast President Anna M. Babin. They set an outstanding example for others to follow and we sincerely thank everyone at ExxonMobil for helping us do something about it, the United Way.

Pat Hewlett of ExxonMobil Global Services served as the 2006 United Way Central Campaign Manager. We consider those we help through the United Way an extension of the ExxonMobil family," said Hewlett. Taking care of each other in our collective community is a priority for our company and an important part of the ExxonMobil tradition."
