Stripes, Hooks Deepen Partnership

Diamond to be dedicated, more

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Corpus Christi Hooks and Stripes convenience stores are kicking off the 2007 season with a trio of fan-centered programs.

Stripes currently features 32-oz. commemorative cups saluting prominent players who have worn the Hooks uniform: Matt Albers, Josh Anderson, Jeff Bagwell, Roger Clemens, Hunter Pence and Mark Saccomanno. All Stripes stores in the greater Corpus Christi, Texas, area carry the cups.

On Sunday, before the Hooks play host to the Tulsa Drillers, Stripes Diamond will be officially dedicated [image-nocss] as part of the festivities for Youth Sports Day at Whataburger Field. Stripes Diamond is a regulation youth baseball park located just beyond the batter's eye in center field.

About 1,000 youth baseball and softball players are expected to attend Sunday's game. All youth leagues in the area are eligible to apply for the opportunity to play on Stripes Diamond during the 2007 season. The field is maintained by the Hooks grounds crew.

"The Stripes Diamond presents an excellent opportunity for youth baseball and softball teams to compete in a wonderful setting on an outstanding playing surface," Hooks director of community relations Elisa Macias said.

And Stripes is sponsoring the Stripe 'em Out game at Whataburger Field this season. When Hooks pitchers strike out a total of 10 or more batters, vouchers for free Laredo Taco Co. tacos will be given out to patrons upon exiting.

"Our relationship with Stripes has deeply enriched the Hooks fan experience," team president J.J. Gottsch said. "They are committed to meeting the needs of the Coastal Bend, from their convenience store operations to youth initiatives like Stripes Diamond, which are critical to the development of children."
