Sun Mart Fuels Reading

Campaign benefits Mid-Columbia Reading Foundation

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Sun Mart and Mid-Columbia Reading Foundation have teamed up to raise money to give books to kids, reported KNDO/KNDU-TV.

For the month of August, customers can buy a card for a dollar at all Sun Mart gas stations in the Tri-Cities area in Washington. They will then send the cards and the money to the Mid-Columbia Reading Foundation, which will use it to buy books. For every card purchased, a book will be given to a child in the area.

"We have 18 locations here, locally in the Tri-Cities, all competing against [image-nocss] each other to try to raise the most amount of money for this great organization," said Chris Eerkes, sales manager for Sun Mart, operated by Sun Pacific Energy Inc., Kennewick, Wash.

So far, Sun Mart has raised around $2,500 just in the first week, said the report. Last year, it raised a total of $6,500, and it hopes to surpass that and raise more $10,000 this year.

The reading foundation hopes to give away around 30,000 books this year, the report said.
