Turning Saved Dimes into Dollars

Price Chopper supermarkets, Sunoco launching Fuel AdvantEdge

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. -- In partnership with 19 Sunoco stations, Price Chopper is launching Fuel AdvantEdge, a program that discounts gasoline as a reward for grocery store purchases. Price Chopper and Sunoco executives will hold a press conference and demonstration at the Southington Sunoco station on Thursday.

In an effort to build additional value into the Price Chopper AdvantEdge card, which has offered consumers savings on groceries and general merchandise, the supermarket chain will kick off Fuel AdvantEdge in its Vernon, Waterbury, Bristol, Southington [image-nocss] and Newington, Conn., locations on Thursday.

Fuel AdvantEdge is an ongoing, cumulative savings/reward program that gives consumers a 10-cents per gallon discount on gasoline purchases for every $50 of groceries purchased (20-cents per gallon on $100 purchased, 30-cents per gallon on $150 purchased, etc.).

Unlike other reward programs, Price Chopper said, consumers can accumulate their points/dollars spent across a 90-day timeframe and cash in on their gasoline discount for up to 20 gallons at their convenience.

"What better way to reward our customers for choosing Price Chopper than by offering them great prices at the supermarket that translate to significant savings at the gas pump," said Neil Golub, president and CEO of Price Chopper.

"Sunoco is pleased to offer significant gasoline discounts through our partnership with Price Chopper. We have customers saving 30, 40 centseven a dollar or more per gallon through the Fuel AdvantEdge program," said Jeff Hassman, channel marketing manager for Sunoco.

Based in Schenectady, N.Y., the Golub Corp. owns and operates more than 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

Sunoco, Philadelphia, has more than 4,700 retail sites selling gasoline and convenience items in the United States.
