Village Pantry Reloaded

Retailer, InComm complete first MasterCard rePower transaction

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Village Pantry chain of convenience stores has completed the first reload transaction as part of the MasterCard rePower Load Network, a new service that allows consumers to add money to eligible MasterCard- or Maestro-branded prepaid cards at participating merchant locations.

Village Pantry, a division of Marsh Supermarkets Inc., worked with technology provider InComm to become the first merchant to join the rePower network.

Village Pantry is constantly looking for ways to provide our customers with extra value [image-nocss] and convenience, said Kent Raphael, vice president of merchandising for Village Pantry. Joining the rePower Load Network means that we can offer reload services to more customers than ever before.

InComm and Village Pantry will soon be launching the new service at the rest of Village Pantry's 148 locations in Indiana and Ohio, they said.

Prepaid cards have emerged as a key enabler of allowing the underservedthose without a banking historyto forge a relationship with a financial institution and better manage their money.

MasterCard selected technology provider InComm as the program manager for its efforts to expand the reload network across the United States. InComm is working with a number of national and regional merchants to become part of the rePower network.

Marsh Supermarkets, Indianapolis, operates 67 Marsh Supermarkets, 31 LoBill Foods, 6 O'Malia's Food Markets, and 148 Village Pantry c-stores in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois; Crystal Food Services, a specialist in catering, office coffee, coffee roasting, business cafeteria management, vending and concessions; Primo Banquet Catering & Conference Centers; Floral Fashions; and McNamara Florist and Enflora Flowers for Business.

Atlanta-based InComm offers prepaid products and point-of-sale technology specializing in retail prepaid services, subscriber services and payment solutions. It provides wireless airtime, financial debit cards, gift cards, music downloads, ring tones, games, long-distance cards, online games, broadband, digital TV as well as bill payment solutions. InComm partners with consumer brand leaders to provide more than 145,000 retail locations the products and services their customers demand.
