2014 NACS Show Focus on Sparkling Water (Slideshow)

Dozens of new SKUs are fighting for space in this growing subcategory

LAS VEGAS -- Like coconut water before it and energy shots before that, sparkling water was the beverage-segment must-have for manufacturers on this year’s NACS Show floor. From a new flavor from standard-bearer Perrier to and an entirely new line from new guard Sparkling Ice, dozens of sparkling flavors littered the trade show.

Some focused on flavors, while others shouted their healthier distance from carbonated soft drinks. While packaging varied from bottles to cans, the 17-oz. test-tube-shaped PET bottle was the predominant go-to design.

Unit sales of sparkling waters grew almost 50% in convenience stores in 2013. Here’s a look at what’s new in the subcategory.
