Miller Debuts Mickey's Stinger

Brewer launches caffeinated malt beverage

MILWAUKEE -- Miller Brewing Co. is rolling out a caffeinated malt beverage under its Mickey's brand today, reported The Business Journal.

The Milwaukee-based brewer will launch Mickey's Stinger initially in Arizona, California and Nevada. The beverage features an infusion of caffeine, guarana and taurine.

The new brew will compete against Tilt, a malt beverage featuring an assorted blend of caffeine, guarana and ginseng, and B2E, a caffeinated, fruit-flavored beer, both brewed by Miller's top rival Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., St. [image-nocss] Louis. A-B rolled out Tilt last year and launched B2E in fall 2004. City Brewing Co. in La Crosse contract-brews a caffeinated malt beverage for Mix Master Beverage Co. of Nevada called 24 Seven.

The new Mickey's Stinger malt beverage contains 7% alcohol by volume, said the report, and it will be distributed in 16-oz. single-serve cans and six-packs of 16-oz. cans.

Stinger is the first extension of the Mickey's brand franchise in years, Miller said. The brand, traditionally known for its distinctive taste, unique bottle and hornet logo, has been a staple of the malt liquor category for decades.

The Mickey's franchise, which includes Mickey's Malt Liquor, Mickey's Ice and now Mickey's Stinger, is brewed and distributed by Miller Brewing Co.
