A just-released reformulation of Pepsi Zero Sugar uses a new sweetener system for a more refreshing and bolder taste profile, the Purchase, New York-based company said.

In testing, consumers preferred the new formulation, including in key metrics like overall liking and purchase intent, Pepsi said. Consumers like the new version, considering it more refreshing, tasty and smooth, and having a real cola taste.

“At Pepsi, we put our consumers at the forefront of everything we do," said Todd Kaplan, chief marketing officer for Pepsi, which just replaced Sierra Mist with a new lemon-lime soda called Starry. “Our R&D team leveraged the best new beverage technology to upgrade our Pepsi Zero Sugar product to give fans the best-tasting cola in the zero-sugar category.”

Kaplan said Pepsi is so confident in the new version’s taste that it is “making up to 10 million free Pepsi Zero Sugars available to consumers so that people can try it for themselves.”

Pepsi Zero Sugar promotions include ads during the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl LVII and the giveaway in which consumers text “FREE PEPSI” during the NFL playoffs and “FREE ZERO” during the Super Bowl to 81234 to get a free Pepsi Zero Sugar.
