ExxonMobil, Safeway Partner on 'Reward Points'

Extend loyalty program to East Coast markets

HOUSTON -- ExxonMobil and Safeway Inc. have partnered to extend the reach of the fuel rewards-based loyalty program, Safeway Reward Points. Starting in December in select East Coast markets, customers who shop at Safeway stores will have a new way to save when filling up at the pump. The new loyalty program will help maximize value and savings for ExxonMobil and Safeway customers through the combination of convenience and rewards, according to the companies.

Through eligible purchases of groceries, gift cards and pharmacy items, customers can earn gas reward points by shopping with their Safeway Club Card at Safeway stores and redeem them at participating Exxon and Mobil stations. For every 100 points earned, customers receive a 10-cent-per-gallon gas reward.

“As one of the largest grocery retailers in North America, Safeway is an ideal partner, allowing us to reach consumers with a compelling new loyalty offering in the markets and cities where we both have a strong brand presence,” said Chris Mahoney, U.S. branded wholesale manager, ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing Co. “This program supports ExxonMobil’s winning value proposition, as we look to innovate and build our overall loyalty offerings, which already include return and earn, Speedpass and the ExxonMobil SmartCard.”

“Safeway is always looking at new and innovative ways to help our shoppers save,” said Mir Aamir, president, customer loyalty and digital technologies at Safeway. “We know that gas and groceries are two critical and frequent purchases for our customers. Teaming up with ExxonMobil to help our customers save at the pump is a perfect choice.”
