Opinion

We spend a lot of time talking about evolving our menus to better compete with restaurants: Should we offer made-to-order sandwiches? A dinner pizza program? But building loyal foodservice customers starts with what most of these shoppers are already buying: dispensed beverages. Now add price sensitivity, and turn it into an opportunity to provide value through combo meals or a foodservice rewards program—using your fountain, coffee and dispensed-treat program as the foundation. Show your innovative side through unique flavors and products. Sometimes the answer is right under our noses. For you, it might literally be a piping cup of coffee from your dispensed program.—Abbie Westra
