BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The popular mac and cheese side dish at Chester’s Chicken is getting called to center stage with not one but two starring roles.
The fresh fried chicken quick-service restaurant concept is debuting two spicy, bold twists on mac and cheese: the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese Bowl and the Buffalo Mac Chicken Sandwich, both for a limited time through Jan. 17.
The Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese Bowl, Chester’s take on the loaded bowl trend, is made with two servings of mac and cheese and topped with six chicken bites tossed in Chester’s Buffalo sauce.
The Buffalo Mac Chicken Sandwich features Chester’s fried chicken tossed in Buffalo sauce, topped with a scoop of mac and cheese and a slice of white American cheese. It weighs about 14.5 ounces and is served on a brioche bun.
“We introduced our new mac and cheese recipe last fall, and it has quickly become our best-selling side,” said Scott Richard, director of culinary innovation at Chester’s Chicken, Birmingham, Ala. “As mac and cheese continues to trend as a favorite across quick-service restaurants throughout the country, we’re giving our guests a taste of something special—combining our famous fried chicken and Buffalo sauce with our award-winning mac and cheese into two delicious, indulgent entrée offerings.”
Since launching last in November 2021, mac and cheese servings are up nearly 40% across all Chester’s locations, the company said.
Chester’s Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese innovation follows the popular Honey Stung Chicken limited summertime offering.
Chester's Chicken, which has 1,100 locations across the U.S., offers fried chicken in convenience stores, truck stops and supermarkets. Chester's marinated chicken is double breaded using an old family recipe. Chester’s menu includes bone-in chicken, tenders, bites, sandwiches and potato wedges as well as breakfast, homestyle sides, dipping sauces and desserts.
