ALTOONA, Pa.  Sheetz is jumping on board to celebrate Shark Week, a Discovery Channel tradition since July 1988, when the station first devoted seven days of programming to all things shark.

From July 11 through July 16, Sheetz is selling a festive Shark Week doughnut with blue frosting, sprinkles and a gummy shark.

The doughnut will be available at all 629 Sheetz stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina for $1.29. Each store will have a daily supply of six to 12 doughnuts. Once out, the supply will not be restocked until the next day.

The very first Shark Week show, “Caged in Fear,” explored the science of creating and testing motorized shark cages, according to The Week. There were 10 programs in the lineup, and prime-time ratings nearly doubled from the station’s regular average.

Sharks have fossil records dating back 400 million years, according to the World Wildlife Fund. There are more than 1,000 species of sharks and rays, with new species discovered every year.

Sheetz, which will begin accepting digital currencies this summer, is No. 14 on CSP’s2021 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by store count.
