Tyson Foods and NACS Donate Truckload of Protein to Las Vegas Food Bank

Contribution is part of manufacturer's pledge to donate $50 million to fight hunger in the U.S.

LAS VEGAS -- Tyson Foods Inc. and NACS teamed up to donate 35,000 pounds of protein to Three Square Food Bank during the association’s annual show in Las Vegas.

Three Square will disperse the 140,000 servings of food to its network of more than 1,600 community partners to help fight hunger in southern Nevada.

“Partnering with organizations like Three Square Food Bank and NACS is important to us in raising awareness about food insecurity in communities all around the U.S.,” said Mark Purvis, vice president of convenience sales for Tyson Foods. “In this community alone, Three Square served more than 37 million meals last year. We’re honored to support those extraordinary efforts.”

This year’s NACS Show provided a backdrop for the donation. The event attracted an estimated 24,000 attendees from more than 60 countries from Oct. 7 to 10.

“We truly believe that c-store doesn’t just stand for convenience store—it also stands for community store, and we are proud to join Tyson Foods in supporting the Las Vegas community that we call home this week during the NACS Show in Las Vegas,” said Jeff Lenard, vice president of strategic industry initiatives for NACS.

As a partner of Feeding America, Share Our Strength and Lift Up America, Tyson has donated more than 100 million pounds of protein in the past 18 years. In 2015, Tyson Foods pledged to donate $50 million in cash and in-kind donations by 2020.

Springdale, Ark.-based Tyson Foods produces, markets and exports chicken, beef and pork. Its brands include Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Wright, Aidells and State Fair. The company was founded in 1935.
