LAS VEGAS -- Whether the end result was a customer paying at the pump with a mobile phone or a district manager spotting an inventory issue at store No. 35, an aggressive use of mobile solutions was palpable on the NACS trade-show floor this year.
As retailers themselves have become increasingly tech savvy, so has access to larger amounts of data storage, Wi-Fi at the store level and software-as-a-service (Saas) models that bring much of the needed IT infrastructure into the cloud. In that virtual world, third parties can provide high-tech solutions at a cheaper cost than even two or three years ago.
