EG Group Implementing PriceAdvantage in Former Kroger C-Store Network

New owner expanding use of fuel price management and execution software

CINCINNATI -- U.K. gas-station and convenience-store retailer EG Group has selected Skyline Products’ PriceAdvantage software to execute its fuel pricing strategies for the recently acquired Kroger convenience stores.

EG Group closed on its acquisition of The Kroger Co.’s network of 762 Quik Stop, Kwik Shop, Loaf 'N Jug, Turkey Hill and Tom Thumb c-stores in April. The Blackburn, U.K.-based company established its U.S. headquarters in Cincinnati and continues to operate the stores under their established banners.

  • EG Group is now No. 10 in CSP's 2018 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains in the United States by number of company-owned retail outlets.

“Price Advantage has supported EG group in the U.K., creating functionality to meet unique pricing processes,” said Chip Stadjuhar, president and CEO of Skyline Products, Colorado Springs, Colo. “We are proud to now support their fuel marketing efforts here in the U.S. and are exciting to watch the EG Group implement their unique and innovative business model across their newly acquired stores.”

Using prebuilt integrations with NCR Radiant and PDI, Skyline installed PriceAdvantage and it was up and running in more than 700 U.S. stores in weeks. The pricing system allowed the chain’s fuel pricing analysts to immediately establish new fuel prices and push those prices to the point of sale (POS), pumps and price signs with one click. In addition, EG Group can now centralize pricing strategies, allowing regional pricing analysts to “manage by exception” and only spend time on stores and districts where proposed price changes fall outside of established pricing rules.

“The PriceAdvantage team responded very quickly to help integrate the fuel pricing at our newly acquired Kroger stores into EG Group’s PriceAdvantage network,” said Javed Rashid Patel, EG Group head of fuel pricing. “This partner approach is very much appreciated. It means there is one less thing to worry about as we move into the U.S. market. What also makes PriceAdvantage unique is the ability to push prices all the way to the pole—something that is critical to our operations.”

PriceAdvantage’s configurable, patented solution allows fuel marketers to execute their fuel-pricing strategies faster and more accurately by reducing manual processes and human errors, the company said. PriceAdvantage enables customers to make rapid, informed fuel-pricing decisions based on their own business rules, automatically post new prices to their POS systems, fuel pumps and price signs, and receive price change confirmation in minutes.

EG Group is an independent fuel convenience retailer with a diversified portfolio of sites across eight European countries and in the United States. It operates nearly 5,000 sites globally, generating revenues of more than $20 billion. On the fuel side, it partners with Esso, BP, Shell and Texaco. In convenience retail, the business has cultivated relationships with Carrefour, Spar and Louis Delhaize, with food-to-go partners including Starbucks, KFC, Burger King and Subway.
