DETROIT-- Governor Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is running advertisements on digital gasoline dispenser screens at an undisclosed number of gas stations in the Detroit area, reported The Detroit Free Press.
The campaign would not tell the newspaper how much the advertising effort cost, only that it is expected to be very visible between now and the election on Tuesday, said the report.
The campaign is also using the ads at stations in Washington, San Francisco, Sacramento, Calif., New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, Detroit, Dallas, Chicago, Boston and Atlanta, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report.
The ad is airing at up to 60 stations in the greater Philadelphia area, campaign officials told the paper.
In the 40-second spot, a gas pump displays 2009's regional average price of $1.85 a gallon. As audio excerpts of Obama speeches play, the counter ticks higher, pausing at $3.69 a gallon, roughly today's price.
After a pause, the register spins higher and higher, and the ad concludes with a snippet of Obama saying, in 2008, "This country can't take four more years of the same failed politics and the same failed policies--it's time to try something new."
