BOSTON — The Boston Beer Co. and PepsiCo will release Hard Mtn Dew in early 2022.

The beverage will have 5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and come in four flavors: Original, Black Cherry, Watermelon and a to-be-announced fourth flavor. While the flavored malt beverage (FMB) recipes are still in the final stages of development, Hard Mtn Dew will have no caffeine or sugar, a Boston Beer Co. spokesperson said.

“We know that adult drinkers' tastes are evolving, and they are looking for new and exciting flavorful beverages,” said Dave Burwick, Boston Beer's CEO. “The combination of our experience in brewing and developing the best-tasting hard seltzers and hard teas, and Mtn Dew, a one of kind multi-billion-dollar brand, will deliver the excitement and refreshment that drinkers know and love.”

Boston Beer will develop and produce Hard Mtn Dew and PepsiCo has set up a new entity to sell, deliver and merchandise the product. The FMB will be marketed to adults of legal age and merchandized consistently with other alcohol beverages, the companies said.

“For 80 years Mtn Dew has challenged the status quo, bringing bold flavors and unmatched beverage innovation to millions of fans,” said Kirk Tanner, CEO of PepsiCo Beverages North America. “The Boston Beer Co. partnership combines two recognized leaders in our respective industries to address the changing tastes of drinkers and we are thrilled at the opportunity to create Hard Mtn Dew that maintains the bold, citrus flavor fans know and expect.”

Mountain Dew is a product of Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo. The carbonated soft drink line includes varieties like Mtn Dew Game Fuel, Mtn Dew Voltage and Mtn Dew Zero Sugar.

The Boston Beer Co., Boston, is known for its Samuel Adams beer brand as well as Truly Hard Seltzer, Twisted Tea and Angry Orchard Hard Seltzer.
