Rutter’s Rolls Out Sustainable Coffee LTO

The blend is the chain’s second since launching the program in December

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter’s has added a new blend to its sustainable coffee program. The York, Pa.-based convenience-store chain’s Guatemalan Highlands coffee is a medium roast with honey, floral and chocolate notes.

Together with S&D Coffee & Tea, Rutter’s launched the sustainable coffee line in December 2017. The c-store rotates the Raiz-branded blends every six months. The proceeds from the coffees go toward supporting farming communities and improving farming practices.

“Giving back to our communities, helping protect our environment and operating with a high level of corporate responsibility are foundational pieces of Rutter’s strategic direction,” said Ryan Krebs, director of foodservice for Rutter's.

Rutter’s is not the only c-store chain to invest in a more sustainable coffee program. This spring, Wawa Inc. announced it was transitioning to Rainforest Alliance Certified espresso products. The move is part of the Wawa, Pa.-based company’s broader plan to certify all its coffee products over the next two years. In 2016, 7-Eleven Inc. launched its first sustainably sourced coffee line. The Irving, Texas-based chain has since followed up the line with a premium line of Rainforest Alliance Certified beans.

Rutter’s operates about 70 stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland. The retailer is No. 96 on CSP’s2018 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of company-owned retail outlets.
