LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Dan Fachner, president and CEO of The ICEE Co. and J&J Snack Foods, has been nominated for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man and Woman of the Year campaign.

The award, however, “is not about the title for me,” Fachner said. ”It is all about dollars raised, and I am asking you to join me today in this ambitious campaign. I have until Saturday, May 7, to reach my goal of raising $100,000.”

Those wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution can visit Fachner’s campaign website, ICEE Hope, to do so.

“Your donation will prevent someone from losing a child, sibling, parent or loved one, and allow LLS to continue funding life-saving research,” he said. “Learn more about LLS and its mission.

“Please reach out to others you know and ask them to contribute as well,” Fachner added. “I have found that so many of the people I talk to about my campaign have a connection to blood cancer and want to support LLS.”

Fachner, a northern California native who now lives in Franklin, Tenn., with his wife, Julie, has seen firsthand how cancer can change the lives of individuals and families.

“In 2010, I lost my brother-in-law to lung cancer at the young age of 54,” said Fachner, who began his career with The ICEE Co. more than 40 years ago. “He was a dear friend, a loving father, husband and everything you could ask for in a brother-in-law. Earlier this year, I lost a mentor, a great leader and a dear friend to cancer. Cancer affects all of us in some way throughout our life. Being part of this organization and helping LLS is important to me so that together, we can work to make a difference and get closer to finding a cure.”

Throughout his career, Fachner said he has had many opportunities to give back to local communities. “Particularly special to me are the complimentary ICEE machines we have been able to provide to select hospitals,” he said. “This is just one small way we can bring joy to children going through cancer treatments. When we see firsthand the impact that something so small can mean to these families, it inspires us to continue our efforts and be part of something even bigger.”

“Working alongside and supporting the LLS organization is a great way for us to start making an even bigger impact,” he said.

La Vergne, Tenn.-based The ICEE Co. was founded in 1967 and is a major supplier in the frozen beverage industry. Its brands include ICEE, Slush Puppie, Arctic Blast, Parrot-Ice fruit smoothies and more.
