QuikTrip Debuts E15

Offering ethanol blend at 44 locations in Dallas-Fort Worth market

TULSA, Okla. -- Convenience-store retailer QuikTrip Corp. is expanding its fuel offer this year with the debut of E15 fuel (a blend of 85% gasoline, 15% ethanol) at 44 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area in Texas.

Based in Tulsa, Okla., QuikTrip (No. 11 on CSP’s Convenience Top 202 for 2017) sells fuel at nearly 750 c-stores in 11 states.

“We are committed to providing our customers with a variety of products that provide them value and convenience,” said QuikTrip spokesperson Mike Thornbrugh. “E15 allows us to provide our fuel consumers with a new fuel that is frequently less expensive than alternative offerings, at a higher octane and better value.”

Other major c-store chains offering E15—approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in all vehicles 2001 and newer—include Family Express, Kum & Go, Mapco, Minnoco, Murphy USA, Protec Fuels, RaceTrac, Sheetz and Thorntons.

“We are pleased to have QuikTrip join the … retailers offering E15, and look forward to expanding access to the clean-burning, homegrown biofuel with them,” said Emily Skor, CEO of Washington-based Growth Energy, an organization that represents ethanol producers and supporters.

E15 is now offered at convenience stores in 26 states, according to Michael O’Brien, vice president of Growth Energy. “One million gallons of E15 is now sold annually,” he said.
