FAIRFAX, Va. — Smith Oil Co. has partnered with Liquid Barcodes to update its rewards app, adding C-StorePay fuel-payment technology that allows consumers to pay for fuel through the app.

After linking a payment option to the app, customers drive in, swipe to choose the fuel pump number in the app, fuel up and go.

Smith Oil has opted to accept ACH transactions on the app using C-StorePay to quickly authenticate bank account information in just five steps that take less than a minute to complete and authenticate, the company said. Processing payment via ACH saves retailers at least 1.5% in fees, which can translate to thousands of dollars year over year, according to Liquid Barcodes.

Customers are also prompted with in-store offers in the same transaction to sell additional products beyond the fuel purchase.

“We strive to give our fuel and convenience customers a fast, easy and enjoyable experience whenever they visit our stores,” said Michelle Fluharty, secretary and treasurer of Smith Oil Co. “We want to be more than just a fuel provider to our customers; we sell time and convenience, and by offering the opportunity to quickly fuel up, pay and be on their way, we will be rewarding them with extra minutes in their day.”

Smith Oil Co. relies on Verifone’s cloud-based point of sale (POS) and site management software solutions and discovered the easy integration of the Liquid Barcodes loyalty and fuel-pay solutions while attending the 2022 NACS Show, the company said.

Liquid Barcodes develops app-based loyalty and subscription programs.

“We are proud to partner with Smith Oil to introduce this revolutionary technology to their customers,” said Saurabh Swarup, general manager of North America for Liquid Barcodes, Fairfax, Va. “We are really excited about this unique partnership with Verifone as this allows for a greater synergy between applications to deliver a truly convenient experience for both Verifone customers and end consumers. I am confident that many retailers using Verifone would like to take advantage of this fully integrated app solution.”

Smith Oil, New Cumberland, W.Va., operates 12 retail locations serving the Ohio Valley in both Ohio and West Virginia.
