FKG Oil Inc., operator of 80 MotoMart c-stores in six states, is skeptical of the longevity of delivery service. Regardless, the chain has leaned into new strategies to close the last mile.

FKG, Belleville, Ill., is adding drive-thru windows to its new stores and testing takeout, CEO Jim Forsyth said.

“Any time you do any of these things, you need more employees, so it affects your efficiency," he said. “But it's fun to splatter out and try all these things.”
The goal is to make employees and customers happy, Forsyth said.

“And if both of those groups are happy, your shareholders are happy,” he said. “That's how we're looking at it.”
