When it comes to Sheetz’s path-to-purchase strategy, it’s all about choice, CEO Joe Sheetz says. Whether someone wants to order and pay before they go to the store, have food delivered to their homes or order in-store, it shouldn’t matter.

“We shouldn’t care, right?” Sheetz said on a Winsight Media Outlook Leadership Community webinar. “All we should care [about] is that they’re using us.”

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Altoona, Pa.-based chain of about 600 stores rolled out new services including scan and go and curbside pickup that were rolled out quickly compared to typical projects.

“We were fortunate in that we had a lot of things in test before this ever started,” says Sheetz, referring to the services for which the chain already had a technology “backbone” in place.
