One-bite soup dumplings, known in Asian cuisine as xiao long bao, are growing in popularity.

Din Tai Fung, a restaurant chain based in Taiwan with 13 locations in the United States, is widely regarded as bringing it to the mainstream, according to CSP sister Restaurant Business.

“Soup dumplings have been enjoyed in the U.S. for decades, and there are many smaller mom-and-pop restaurants offering the spoon-size pillows of dough filled with meat and flavorful broth, mostly in the San Gabriel Valley near L.A. and New York City,” Restaurant Business writes, adding that xiao long bao might be the next ramen.

Several restaurant chains have opened nationwide trying to take advantage of the growing popularity of the dumplings.
