Founded in 2000 and based in Acworth, Ga., Mountain Express owns or controls more than 200 gas stations and provides fuel to more than 600 stations across the United States under several major oil and regional fuel brands. With a geographic footprint covering 19 states, Mountain Express has relationships with ExxonMobil, BP, Amoco, Shell, Chevron, Texaco, Sunoco, Valero, Gulf, CITGO, Diamond Shamrock, Marathon, Arco, Phillips 66, ConocoPhillips and 76Motiva.

It has 98 company-owned and -operated stores, several of which were acquired in 2021, under brand names including Fox Fuels, The Store and QV.

Mountain Express aims to redefine what consumers expect from the c-store and fuel station experience with a shift toward dynamic destinations featuring food, beverages and other product offerings that complement the modern lifestyle and consumer expectations, according to the company’s website.

In 2021, company acquisitions included West Hill Ranch, a high-growth c-store brand with six locations in central Florida; 24 Sunoco stations in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania markets; and New Orleans-based Brothers Food Mart’s 50 locations. These acquisitions were made possible in part by a $205 million debt financing the company completed in 2021.

For benchmarking purposes, store counts are as of Jan. 1, 2022.
