The Petroleum Marketing Group (PMG) bills itself as one of the largest multibranded petroleum dealers in the mid-Atlantic region, and it continues to grow through acquisition, picking up more stores in early 2015. The company has 115 company-owned and -operated stores, about 50 operated by commissioned agents, plus some 500 dealer sites in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New Jersey.
Affiliate E&C Enterprises manages the company-operated sites. It has a close relationship with its dealers and helps bring them together with suppliers, but doesn't buy for them.
The chain's target customer is the 18- to 40-year-old male looking for fuel, cigarettes and a favorite libation. The company offers a discount for fuel purchased with cash or proprietary credit cards. The company also offers a branded gasoline card. While company-owned stores are branded Corner Mart or Market Place, dealer-operated stores may carry only the fuel brand. Private-branded fuels are Bayco and Quest.
PMG also distributes fuel to company stores and its commission-agent sites. (The company owns the sites, but the operator/dealer owns the “inside” business and is not on the back-office system of the company's stores.)
It acquired stores in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia from Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Properties LLC on Jan. 12, 2015.
In 2013, PMG became the area developer for the Circle K brand in key areas of Pennsylvania and Delaware, in addition to its Circle K stores in New Jersey.
