The Shop Rite concept began in 1966 with one store and the notion of fast, courteous service in a sanitary and safe environment. Today the chain has 62 convenience stores throughout central and southern Louisiana. The company is comprised of 38 Shop Rite convenience stores (one adjoining a liquor store) and 24 Tobacco Plus Discount Outlet stores.
Foodservice is an important focus for the Shop Rite stores, which offer a proprietary program called Bourbon Street Deli. The stores cater to their customers by offering great regional foods at fair prices. Shop Rite delis prepare and serve Southern specialties such as grits, as well as seafood from the Gulf Coast region.
Shop Rite stores emphasize cleanliness and safety with well-lighted premises. Some Shop Rite stores have large beer, wine and liquor departments. The chain has its own proprietary brand of liquor through Ambassador Wine & Spirits.
