Rockford, Ill.-based Road Ranger LLC has been running c-stores and truckstops throughout the Midwest since 1984, led by founder and CEO Dan Arnold. Today the company does business in seven states, where it owns and operates about 70 locations. Nine locations have a car wash, and stores are open 24 hours a day for customer convenience.

More than two-thirds of Road Ranger's locations are traditional convenience stores, while about 30 are truckstops/travel centers. Privately held Road Ranger has a partnership with Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Flying J's Pilot Travel Centers at more than 20 travel centers and truckstop locations. The truckstops are co-branded with Pilot-brand diesel islands, the result of a deal struck in October 2008 with Pilot Travel Centers. The partnership has enabled Road Ranger to attract a new customer: the long-haul truck driver.

Road Ranger is "always looking at new opportunities" to expand, according to the company. The company's corporate mission statement includes the phrase "marketing dominant stores run by committed employees."
