Toot'n Totum has historically stayed within the Amarillo market, but started moving into other Panhandle communities in 2013 with the purchase of 10 Express Lane stores from Frontier Fuel Co. The stores are rebranded Toot'n Totum. Local ownership, quick response to customers, prime locations, and involvement in the communities has provided Toot'n Totum an edge. Growth has come through acquisition over the years.
The company has spent a great deal of time developing its employee recognition program, Mitchell says; the three-year project included hiring psychologists and business consultants so the company could ensure that it had the best team. The program includes focusing on making employees’ lives better, which includes recognizing employees and making both customers and employees happy.
