Hy-Vee is one of the largest privately owned supermarket chains in the United States and is concentrated in the Midwest. The company also operates Hy-Vee Gas convenience stores with fuel in the parking lots of its grocery stores in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The adjacent c-stores and gas stations have been added as a strategy to meet more customer needs at a single location and capture more market share.
Hy-Vee Inc. debuted a large-format c-store in July 2107. At approximately 8,800 square feet, the new store will be much bigger than traditional convenience stores, which range from 2,500 to 4,000 square feet.
Hy-Vee Gas locations differentiate themselves from competitors by offering private-label Hy-Vee grocery items, including prepared foods. Top-selling items at Hy-Vee c-stores include fountain drinks, coffee and tobacco. Stores offer limited-service, self-service and QSR formats for foodservice.
The Hy-Vee Fuel Saver rewards card can be used at more than 1,200 locations, including Casey’s, Shell stations and PDQ.
