Note: Due to its different business model, the RaceWay brand appears separately on the Top 202.
RaceTrac Petroleum’s corporate tagline is “Making people’s lives simpler and more enjoyable.” The company operates stores under the RaceTrac brand, with most featuring 20 to 24 fueling positions and a more than 4,000-square-foot convenience store. The company also licenses dealer-operated stores called RaceWay.
The chain recently entered the Nashville market, where it plans to open 30 news stores by 2023. Nashville marks the chain’s first expansion into a new market in more than 15 years, company officials said.
A hallmark of RaceTrac’s innovation in recent years is the “RT6K,” a 6,000-square-foot floor plan that features 360-degree brick walls, 10 Swirl World Yogurt flavors with more than 40 toppings, outdoor and indoor seating and free Wi-Fi. The new models also feature an expanded food, beverage and coffee selection.
A key feature of the RT6K model is more back-room space with adjacencies to allow for storage and room in which to move around. Checkout is in the center, making it easier for associates to be readily available to serve customers.
Another big move was the brand’s focus on Florida. RaceTrac has opened dozens of new stores in the Sunshine State in recent years, so many that Florida is now home to nearly half of RaceTrac’s entire network. Its platform spans Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas, with the chain hoping to open many more stores in Florida and other markets in the coming years.
