Houchens Food Group is part of the larger Houchens Industries and includes 38 convenience stores. The company also operates retail grocery and neighborhood market stores across 16 states. A newly built convenience store opened in April 2019 in Bowling Green, Ky., bringing the total to 39. “The new store is our larger-format Crossroads IGA, which is one-third convenience store and two-thirds grocery store,” said Robin Reeves, convenience merchandise purchasing manager. The newest store is the company’s 12th Crossroads IGA and “the format has been very successful for Houchens,” Reeves said.

Houchens is a diverse company with 18,000 employees corporatewide. It is listed by Forbes as one of the largest 100% employee-owned companies in the world. Houchens celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017.
