Shop Rite/Tobacco Plus was founded more than 50 years ago by John Dan Gielen. Today, the retailer aims to offer spacious stores featuring Louisiana-made products, modern restrooms and delicious food. Foodservice is a key focus for Shop Rite, which has the proprietary Bourbon Street Deli program, featuring Southern specialties such as muffuletta sandwiches, po’boys and Gulf Coast seafood. Another concept, Rascal’s Cajun Restaurant, offers dine-in or take-out lunch and dinner items, including pork chops, meatloaf, fried chicken and shrimp and crab stew. Some locations also offer catering.
Tobacco Plus stores sell about 80% tobacco and adult beverages, but they also offer other c-store merchandise such as snacks, gifts and novelties.
