Johnson Oil Co.

This family-run business is represented by three generations operating Express Lane convenience stores in northwestern Illinois and southeastern Iowa. All stores sell fuel, most branded Shell and some with BP fuel. Kathy Peugh, daughter of founders Art and Darlene Johnson, said 65 of the Express Lane stores are in Illinois and the rest in Iowa. The total number of stores went down one in the past year, when one changed to a dealer-operated site. There are 12 dealer sites receiving fuel from Johnson Oil, she said.

When Johnson Oil acquired BP branded sites in several Illinois towns in 2011, Subway restaurants came with them. The Express Lane stores continue to operate the Subway restaurants within those convenience stores.
