A family-owned chain in southeastern North Carolina, Short Stop Food Marts aims to differentiate through its robust deep dive across snacks, candies, frozen beverages, hot dispensed Jamaican Mountain Blue Coffee, premade foods, groceries, dairy products, health and beauty items and more. Select locations offer proprietary Short Stop fuel at a lower price point, while other locations pump BP and Exxon fuels. In recent years Short Stop converted some branded gasoline locations to the Short Stop fuel brand.
The chain regularly scouts for acquiring new locations or build new units from the ground up, and flashes an affinity for ongoing renovation and remodeling schedules to keep up with changing customer demands. It also updated its logo to project a more modern look, updated its corporate website and established a Twitter handle for its logo and mascot, Shorty.
Every year ExxonMobil gives away more than $2 million dollars in grants for local schools for Math and Science. In 2018 it doled out $8,000 to local schools to be used for math and science education. Short Stop has partnered with Exxon since 2012, distributing $44,000 to local schools.
For benchmarking purposes, store counts are year-end 2019.
