Allsup’s Convenience Stores is ranked as New Mexico’s top privately owned corporation. Lonnie and Barbara Allsup have long been recognized as innovators in the c-store industry since opening their first location in 1956, then known as “Lonnie’s Drive in Grocery” in Roswell, N.M. Often cited as the “Mother and Father of the Modern Day Convenience Store,” they were some of the first to offer 24-hour self-service gasoline and were early innovators in selling cooked foods from burritos to barbecue.

Allsup’s stores are known for their deep-fried burritos and eggrolls, made fresh at the stores. The company has about 3,000 employees.

As an early adopter of technology, Barbara Allsup oversaw the development of Allsup’s proprietary point-of-sale and pricebook technology in the early 1990s. In addition to the c-store chain, the Allsups own a petroleum jobbership, software-development company, radio stations and world championship cutting horse ranches in Texas and New Mexico.
