Spartan Stores and Nash Finch Co., a food distributor, merged in 2014, adopting the corporate name of SpartanNash Co. The combined entity has 22 distribution centers covering 37 states, 177 retail stores and is a distributor to military commissaries and exchanges.
In addition to owning and operating supermarkets in Michigan, the company is a convenience-store operator under the Family Fare Quick Stop, D&W Quick Stop, VG's Quick Stop and Glen's Quick Stop banners. Quick Stops are known for their fuel-rewards program, new and clean facilities, and 99-cent coffee or 99-cent any-size fountain drinks. With most fuel centers located adjacent to the retailer's supermarkets, the company frequently cross-merchandises its Spartan brand groceries with the private-label items in its c-stores.
While it is working to bring in grocery shoppers and drive-by customers, SpartanNash’s No. 1 customer at the fuel centers is males purchasing cigarettes, impulse items and beer.
